Right now, I have all three notification options enabled:

  1. "Flash task manager for notifications"
  2. "Show icon in system tray"
  3. "Create tray icon popup messages"

However, if I miss the tray icon popup duration (due to being AFK or just distracted), there's nothing that will alert me to the missed notification. I'm not sure if there's a time limit on the flashing, or if it just doesn't show up in my X environment (xmonad + lxpanel), but it doesn't currently serve this purpose either. (In contrast, the official Slack client would display a red dot in the tray icon for an unlimited amount of time, until I viewed the message that had generated the notification.)

I'd prefer something that will keep alerting me indefinitely. Some possibilities:

  1. A red dot in the tray icon like the official client
  2. Pidgin has an option to flash the tray icon indefinitely until the notification is cleared

Thanks for your time!

I've been putting off the tray icon unread/alert marker for a while, but I guess I should finally get around to it.
