Channels which have open tabs should be indicated in the channel list with some other style. Could be bold, or an icon to the left, or a color change, or some combination of all those. Could change #general to {#general} or >general. Could even bounce and shoot sparkles at intervals. I would prefer a very vivid indication, but even a small indication is a good improvement.
